Frequently asked questions about Bali visas

Living in Bali

What documents do I need for my visa application?

This will vary based on the visa you apply for, but in all cases, you will need:

  • A passport valid for at least six months
  • A passport-style colour photograph against a white background
  • A recent bank statement (last 2 months) showing at least $3500

Refer to the document list provided for each visa type for more information.

How long does it take to process a visa for Bali?

A Regular visa application can take up to 14 business days to be processed (although it’s often faster than that). If you need your visa more quickly, we offer an Express service to ensure you get your visa back within 5 business days. Enquire about our Express service here.

What’s the difference between tourism and business visas?

If you are coming to Bali to soak up the sun and sand and don't plan on conducting business while you are here, then a tourist visa is the best choice. This is also the right visa if you travel here to attend a conference or exhibition.

If your primary purpose is to conduct business meetings, negotiate contracts, check on suppliers or purchase goods for sale, you should apply for a business visa.

This applies even if you spend a portion of your trip on holiday.

I’m unsure how long I’ll stay in Bali - which visa should I choose?

Most short-term visas can be extended so you can always start with a 30 or 60-day visa with the option to apply to stay longer if needed. If you still don’t know which visa to choose, give us a call so we can discuss your options.

Why use a visa agent when I can just get a 30-day visa when I arrive in Bali and extend it later?

Getting your 30-day visa before you land saves time and hassle at the airport. It also reduces confusion and means you won’t get hit by unnecessary costs or excess fees.

A 30-day visa is also the only kind of visa that you are allowed to submit yourself. All other visas require a local business sponsor (such as Bali Life) and cannot be submitted by an individual.

How far in advance should I apply for my visa?

When granted, an eVisa gives you 90 days to enter Bali. We recommend applying for your visa within 3 months of travel to ensure you arrive within this 90-day window.
